What an atmosphere in Malaga! April 16, 2026, will be etched in memory as a day of pure adrenaline. With no less than 8910 participants flooding the Av. de José Ortega y Gasset, the HYROX Malaga 2026 edition transformed the city into a giant playground, pulsating to the rhythm of burpees and lunges. Contagious energy, endless cheers, and top-tier performances – this Spanish race delivered a memorable spectacle. Get ready, we're going to break down the results of this intense day together!
Open Men — The Race for Personal Bests
The Open Men category was the scene of a fierce battle where every athlete seemed determined to shatter their own limits. The podium was dominated by PB regulars, promising an exciting show until the last station. The times were incredibly tight, and the average of 01:22:48 for the 2075 male Open finishers attests to the intensity of the competition.

Britain's George Brock was not far behind, just 17 seconds off first place. He also set a new personal record of 00:56:08, improving his Katowice time (00:58:26). A choice performance that confirms his consistency at the highest level.
Martyn Paterson completed the podium with an impressive time of 00:56:59. This is also a new PB for him, surpassing his 00:57:14 from Glasgow. Great Britain clearly left its mark on this Open category.
Just a few seconds off the podium, Tom Barber achieved 00:57:23, significantly improving his London Olympia PB (00:59:55). A solid performance that propelled him into the top 5.
An incredible comeback for Andy Smith who posted a time of 00:57:43. He shattered his previous Melbourne record (01:14:41) with an improvement of over 16 minutes! We're talking about a complete transformation here.
The first Spaniard in the ranking, Héctor Arévalo Chico, secured a strong 6th place in 00:58:04. He also set a new PB, breaking the symbolic hour mark which he hadn't achieved in Bilbao (01:03:18).
Just one second behind Héctor, Paul Mcnulty (00:58:05) continued the streak of personal records. His old London Olympia PB (01:00:39) was significantly beaten, proving that Malaga was a land of performance for him.
Irish runner Brian Maher, with 00:58:10, delivered an extraordinary performance! Having previously recorded a PB of 01:33:09 in Dublin, he shaved no less than 35 minutes off his time. Hats off!
Another Brit and another PB! Mathew Harrison shone with 00:58:21, improving his previous Auckland record (01:03:57). A great consistency in progression.

Emer Cawley (01:06:37) completed this top 5 with a brilliant new personal record! She had run 01:26:03 in Manchester, an improvement of over 19 minutes. What progress!
Spanish athlete Irene Alcaide Barrera secured a strong 6th place and improved her personal PB from Malaga (01:12:50) with a very good 01:07:19. Did home advantage play a role? Perhaps!
Just 3 seconds behind Irene, Laura Boroš, from Croatia, showed her consistency. Although she didn't beat her Vienna time (01:06:40), her 01:07:22 is a solid performance in a competitive field.
Araminta Woolger (01:07:52) set a new personal record, beating her Nice time (01:12:30). The British athlete proved she is consistently improving.
Hungarian Noemi Laura Dr Vincze-Vass, with an impressive 01:08:09, also improved her Manchester PB (01:09:35). A performance that brilliantly places her in the top 10.
